According to recent reports, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, renowned for their early involvement in Bitcoin, have solidified their commitment to the cryptocurrency by investing $4.5 million worth of Bitcoin into Real Bedford Football Club (RBFC). The move marks a significant step in the intersection of cryptocurrency and sports ownership.
The investment, facilitated through their firm, Winklevoss Capital, signifies the twins’ belief in the potential of Bitcoin to transform traditional industries. Peter McCormack, the popular Bitcoin podcaster and now co-owner of RBFC, expressed his gratitude, stating, “The investment helps with the infrastructure. We need to grow this with our ambitions.”
McCormack, who acquired RBFC in 2021, has set his sights on elevating the club to the English Premier League, aligning with his hometown’s aspirations and leveraging Bitcoin’s financial flexibility. Emphasizing the long-term vision, McCormack stated, “We are a long way from the Premier League. As exciting as that is our ambition, I work on one league at a time.”
The infusion of funds will not only fortify the club’s financial position but also fuel its development initiatives. A portion of the investment will be allocated towards establishing a Bitcoin treasury, aimed at shielding the club from the erosive effects of fiat currency devaluation. Moreover, plans are underway to construct a state-of-the-art training center and provide sustained support for girls’ and youth football.
The Winklevoss twins, echoing McCormack’s ambitions, underscored their shared vision of propelling RBFC to the upper echelons of British football. “We’re not just investing in a football club, we’re investing in a dream to bring Premier League football to Bedford,” Cameron Winklevoss affirmed.
Their endorsement of Bitcoin’s potential to catalyze RBFC’s ascent to the Premier League underscores the growing influence of cryptocurrency in reshaping conventional industries. Tyler Winklevoss emphasized, “We share in Peter’s deep conviction in Bitcoin and its ability to supercharge RBFC’s quest to make it into the Premier League.”
As RBFC navigates its trajectory with the backing of cryptocurrency pioneers, the partnership serves as a testament to the evolving landscape of sports ownership and the transformative power of digital assets.
