Users of the Worldcoin cryptocurrency project found themselves in a frustrating situation on Monday as they encountered technical difficulties while attempting to claim their grants on the platform. The disruption was attributed to an overwhelming surge in traffic, causing the World App to go down temporarily.
Worldcoin, a pioneering cryptocurrency project, offers grants as one-time crypto payments to individuals who become part of the Worldcoin network. These grants hold significant value in the crypto community, making them a sought-after opportunity.
As the World App struggled to accommodate the unexpectedly high number of users trying to access their grants, many were met with error messages. “Can’t fetch data” and “Returning shortly” notifications greeted users attempting to utilize the app, along with a message explaining the situation: “World App is experiencing higher than usual traffic. It will return shortly, please try again later.”
In response to growing user frustration, Worldcoin’s customer support account on X social media platform (formerly Twitter) issued an update. The company acknowledged the issue and offered assurance: “The App is currently under maintenance, it will be back soon.”
Meanwhile, on the official website of the crypto project, a notice addressed the users’ concerns about the delays in response. Worldcoin explained, “We are currently experiencing a high volume of support tickets. Please expect a delay in responses as we do our best to address your issues. It is best if you do not submit multiple tickets at this time. We greatly appreciate your patience.”
While the technical glitch hindered many from claiming their grants, some fortunate users managed to successfully process their grant requests. These users reported receiving 10 WLD from Worldcoin as part of their grant. At the current valuation of $2.07 (Ksh. 386) per WLD, this grant carried a significant monetary value.
The incident shed light on the challenges that arise in the world of cryptocurrencies when platforms face sudden surges in user activity.
