Pixelverse, the innovative project behind the rising Telegram game PixelTap, announced on Monday its plans to launch the PIXFI token on The Open Network (TON) this Thursday, July 18. According to a tweet from Pixelverse, “major centralized exchanges” will list the token at 12 PM UTC.
The launch of PIXFI comes during a period of increasing interest in Telegram-based games. Earlier this year, Notcoin attracted 35 million players and achieved the year’s largest gaming token launch in May. Following this, other games on the messaging platform, including Pixelverse, started gaining momentum, with Pixelverse alone drawing in 50 million new players in June.
However, tokens from other games are yet to be released. Hamster Kombat has announced plans to launch its token on TON this month, though a specific date remains unconfirmed. Additionally, the creators of TapSwap, a game similar to Notcoin, have indicated a launch later this quarter.
Kori Leon, co-founder of Pixelverse, shared insights with Decrypt’s GG about their strategy. “Pixelverse, with its token PIXFI, is the first to launch in the Telegram ecosystem since Notcoin. This launch coincides with a market showing signs of recovery,” Leon stated. He also noted that other tokens in the TON ecosystem, such as Hamster Kombat, have announced a second airdrop without proceeding with the initially rumored end-of-May listing. Meanwhile, TapSwap has delayed its launch to Q3.
Last week, Pixelverse announced raising $7.5 million in supplemental funding from Galaxy and other investors. This follows a $5.5 million raise in June, which included participation from Delphi Digital, Merit Circle, and others.
As the latest wave of Telegram games continues to surge, the question remains whether they can replicate the on-chain hype generated by Notcoin. While the challenge is significant, PixelTap, a tap-to-earn combat game, continues to gain prominence within the Telegram gaming community, leaving millions of players eagerly anticipating the outcome.
