In a bid to prepare the future generation for the rapidly evolving digital landscape, a virtual event titled “Reskilling for the Future” was successfully hosted on the 25th of August 2023. The event, aimed at students across higher institutions in Nigeria with a passion for digital excellence, was a precursor to the upcoming TechSpark event, the student version of Nigeria Fintech Week.
The event, which took place on Zoom, brought together industry leaders, experts, and students to delve into crucial discussions surrounding the importance of continuous learning, emerging skills, industry trends, and the role of networking in enhancing digital careers.
The first speaker for the event was Odunayo Eweniyi, Co-founder and COO of Piggyvest, who delivered an enlightening talk on “Reskilling for the Future: Understanding Digital Transformation.” Odunayo emphasized the rapidly changing nature of the world and stressed the need to begin preparing for the digitally transformed landscape while still in school. She discussed the significance of leveraging technology to revolutionize processes and operations, encouraging students to take the initiative in self-directed learning and reskilling. Odunayo spotlighted areas such as data analytics, soft skills, and an environment fostering creativity and collaboration as crucial focus points to remain relevant.
The second speaker, Chukwuemeka Akujobi, Head of Risk and Compliance Network, delivered an engaging talk titled “Preparing for Jobs That Don’t Exist Yet.” Chukwuemeka emphasized the culture of risk and the importance of continuous learning. He touched on the pros and cons of digitalization and tech advancement, shedding light on cybersecurity threats and the need for ethical considerations. Chukwuemeka encouraged students to discover their passion, incorporate digitalization into their skill set, collaborate, and appreciate small successes along the way.
The event concluded with a call to action, urging students to actively participate in networking, embrace continuous learning, and prepare for TechSpark – the student edition of Nigeria Fintech Week, which promises abundant opportunities for student members.
