UAE ANNOUNCES BLOCKCHAIN ENABLE PLATFORM TO ISSUE LOST PASSPORT

As blockchain ecosystem is surging into the global space, with amazing benefits and solutions; different individuals, organizations and countries are adopting the technology for their creative innovations. The latest country exploring the blockchain ecosystem is the United Arab Emirate, with the recent announcement of its blockchain enable platform built by UAE based Avanza Innovations using Hyperledger Fabric blockchain to issue 39,991 lost passport certificated since February 2021.

The Dubai Police announced on twitter that it has utilized the Hyperledger Fabric Blockchain platform to connect the police with the Dubai Courts, Public Prosecution and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs.

Prior before this development, applicants had to visit each of the entities before obtaining the certificate which takes four working days to be completed done. The blockchain-enabled service however issues the certificate by e-mail without the need to visit any service centers, and in just 24 hours applicants can receive a new passport upon applying through Smart Police stations, Dubai Police applications, or Dubai police official website.

Customers can also apply for a lost passport certificate through the blockchain-enabled service channels of the Dubai Public Prosecution, Dubai Courts and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs.”

According to Brigadier Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi, who is the Director-General of the General Department of Artificial Intelligence at Dubai Police, “The service significantly cuts the time and long process it takes to register a lost passport, by enabling customers to get the certificate in three steps rather than eight.”

 

Meanwhile, the CEO of Avanza Innovations, Mr. Waqas Mirza stated at Gitex 2019 that Avanza Innovations has been working on the ‘Lost Passport’ project with Dubai Police since 2019, together with GDFRA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs).

Mirza explained that they have worked with Dubai Police and the other entities to develop a blockchain platform built on Hyperledger Fabric that will streamline the process of obtaining a new passport as well as notifying authorities of lost passport.

Avanza Innovations CEO however disclosed the Blockcain enabled Lost Passport Journey service will be used during Expo2020 as many visitors will be entering the country and passports might get lost in the process.
