The founder of Social Media Platform, Twitter Jack Dorsey and African-American Rapper, Jay-Z Carter has announced plans to launch an institution that would provide young people with Bitcoin education.
The initiative, which will be strictly available to residents of the Marcy Project public housing complex in New York City is named “The Bitcoin Academy”.
Announcing the development on Twitter, Dorsey said that the academy weeks to enhance access to financial information.
He also said that the initiative would provide for inclusion in terms of opportunities in the industry.
Dorsey also stated that the overarching goal is “to prove that making powerful tools more available to people enables them to build greater independence.”
As a bonus, beneficiaries would be provided with mobile devices and data plans to enrol into the academy.
“Bitcoin is becoming a critical tool for many in Africa and Central and South America. Our goal is to prove that making powerful tools more available to people enables them to build greater independence.”
“Education is where we start. This isn’t just about bitcoin…it’s about long-term thinking, local economies, and self-confidence. Courses are free to all Marcy residents, including kids. And to make it even easier we’re providing devices and data plans for all who need it.”Dorsey said.
Jay-Z wrote on Twitter, “Bitcoin Academy, starting in Marcy, a place that taught me so much, is hopefully the first of many.”
The goal of The Bitcoin Academy is to “provide education, empower the community with knowledge” about managing their finances with a focus on Bitcoin.
The Bitcoin Academy is funded by Jay-Z, Dorsey, the Shawn Carter Foundation, and Block.
Attending the Bitcoin Academy
The Bitcoin Academy describes Bitcoin as the “future of money” and will provide free financial education to recipients. Residents who want to attend the program can sign up through the Bitcoin Academy’s website.
Successful applicants will get access to in-person and virtual classes from June 22-September 7. There will also be a two Saturdays Crypto Kids Camp for kids and teens aged 5-17.
The classes will be taught by Lamar Wilson, founder of Black Bitcoin Billionaire, and Najah J. Roberts, founder of Crypto Blockchain Plug in Inglewood, California.
