Iran Govt Seizes Over 9,000 Illegal Crypto Mining Devices

The government of Iran has seized no fewer than 9,404 illegal cryptocurrency mining devices in Tehran, for operating in unlicensed facilities.

The Head of Tehran Electricity Distribution Company, Kambiz Nazerian, who disclosed this yesterday said that the mining devices were discovered by inspectors in different districts of the Iranian capital.

The shutdown of such facilities started in March this year, Nazerian said.

Local media also reports that some of the crypto mining units operating in Iran are situated in locations such as schools and mosques where electricity is supplied for free.

It was also reported that the increase in cryptocurrency mining and its usage in Iran comes amid relatively low charges placed on electricity supply.

The government has also been clamping down on illegal cryptocurrency mining sites in the country.
