The Binance edition blockchain smartphone by Taiwanese electronics giant HTC introduced last month is about to hit the market as announced on HTC’s EXODUS website.
The smartphone, dubbed HTC EXODUS 1 – Binance, retails for US$599 or SG$889. Users can also buy it with the equivalent price in accepted cryptocurrencies, e.g. bitcoin (BTC) and Binance’s native coin BNB, the exchange announced on Wednesday.
Binance is also giving 500 purchasers an “early adopter” bonus of US$100 in BNB, on a first-come, first-served basis, per the announcement.
Binance said last month that the limited edition phone will be launched “very soon.” The device supports Binance’s native blockchain, Binance Chain, and has a built-in cryptocurrency wallet. It will allow users to access crypto from anywhere and anytime, Binance CEO Changpeng (CZ) Zhao, said at the time.
The phone is “optimized for operating with Binance,” says HTC’s decentralized chief officer Phil Chen. HTC first released its EXODUS 1 line of smartphones exactly a year ago. Among its features, it boasts of a “secure enclave” function to act as its mobile hardware wallet. Most recently, HTC also launched the EXODUS 1s variant, capable of running a full bitcoin node.
WHAT IS THE EXODUS 1 – BINANCE EDITION?
The EXODUS 1 – Binance Edition is the world’s first Binance chain ready cryptophone. This special edition device will now have native support for the Binance DEX in Zion, allowing you access to a decentralized exchange through Zion on your device. Most app-based wallets are always connected to the internet and therefore susceptible to hacking. The EXODUS 1 uses the best hardware and software technologies to create Zion – the perfect Swiss bank in your pocket.
It boasts of a Trusted User Interface (UI), that guards users assets and sensitive data. The keyboard is prone to attacks from malware and fake interfaces trying to phish your information.
It has a Zion Vault that uses the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) to protect private keys and sensitive data. When signing transactions, the TEE activates and temporarily isolates the operating system so that all users data is always safe.
The HTC Exodus comes with these features:
- 6” display
- 12MP + 16MP rear camera
- 8MP + 8MP front camera
- Snapdragon™ 845
- 6GB RAM + 128GB storage
- 3500mAh battery, QC 3.0
- Design by Binance
“EXODUS is about empowering the user. We gave users the ability to own their own keys, and now we’ve gone one step further to allow users to run their own full Bitcoin node. We are providing the tools for access to universal basic finance; the tools to have a metaphorical Swiss bank in your pocket.” Phil Chen, Decentralized Chief Officer at HTC, says.
Chen further syas that “full nodes are the most important ingredient in the resilience of the Bitcoin network and we have lowered the barrier to entry for any person to run a node, which is simply a computer, mobile in our case, participating in the global Bitcoin network that propagates transactions and blocks everywhere, which is the foundation and fundamental definition of a peer-to-peer cash system.”
